La ciudad de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, pagará 625.000 dólares a la mujer que protagonizó el violento forcejeo con varios policías. Esto mientras sostenía a su bebé en brazos dentro de una oficina gubernamental.
El hecho ocurrió en diciembre del año 2018 y desató una fuerte polémica después de que la situación fue filmada y compartida en las redes sociales.

They're hurting my son!"At one point, an officer is seen forcibly ripping the child from the mother's arms, but Headley doesn't let go. Other people in the crowded office screamed, "Oh my God!" and "Look what they're doing to her!"At least one officer brandished a stun gun. The NYPD said they were called after HRA officers and staff were unsuccessful in removing her from the facility. They cited disorderly conduct and said she was blocking the hallway.Nyashia Ferguson, who shot the video, said on Facebook that Headley was asked to leave when she sat down on the floor because all of the chairs were full. “Being poor is not a crime," Letitia James said. "The actions of the NYPD in this video are appalling and contemptible."She called for an investigation and a "transparent accounting of how this horrific situation occurred."City Council Speaker Corey Johnson called the video "unacceptable, appalling and heart breaking [sic]." Headley, of Brooklyn, was charged with resisting arrest, acting in a manner injurious to a child, obstructing governmental administration and criminal trespass, the NYPD said. It's not clear whether she has an attorney.Police said there was also a warrant for her from Mercer County, New Jersey. The details of that case weren't immediately known. She refused medical treatment for both herself and her son, police said. A family member took custody of the child. The New York Times informó la decisión, conocida el pasado 13 de diciembre por el Departamento legal del gobierno neoyorquino, tiene como objetivo resolver la demanda interpuesta en agosto por la madre involucrada, Jazmine Headley. Quien alegó traumas, humillación y solicitó una indemnización por daños como resultado del incidente.
«A través de su inteligencia, valentía y gracia, Jazmine convirtió la peor experiencia de su vida, y de la de cualquier madre, en una oportunidad de cambio para toda la ciudad», expresaron los abogados de la víctima.
Los hechos
El 7 de diciembre de 2018, Headley se encontraba en una oficina de servicios sociales del distrito de Brooklyn. Permaneció varias horas sentada en el piso con su bebé por falta de sillas. Mientras esperaba su turno, un guardia se acercó a ella y le dijo que no podía sentarse allí e insistió en que se levantara.
La negativa de la mujer de cumplir la orden, argumentando la falta de lugares, motivó que efectivos de la policía forcejearan con ella para quitarle el niño. La detuvieron por obstrucción de la administración gubernamental, resistencia al arresto y poner en peligro el bienestar de un menor.
Cuando los presentes comenzaron a protestar por la violencia del procedimiento, uno de los uniformados echó mano a su pistola de aturdimiento y les apuntó con ella. Headley finalmente fue sometida en el suelo y su bebé puesto al cuidado de sus familiares.
La defensa
Tras la difusión de las imágenes de esas acciones, voces oficiales, entre ellas la del alcalde neoyorquino, Bill de Blasio, se alzaron en contra del modo de actuar de los efectivos.
La madre, de 24 años, permaneció cuatro días en la cárcel y salió libre cuando le fueron retirados los cargos.
En febrero, testificó ante el ayuntamiento de Nueva York, el cual le ofreció una disculpa pública. También aprobaron una legislación destinada a mejorar el trato a las personas en las oficinas públicas.
